in Palo Alto California …

Ann McGowan of Providence won six medals and two ribbons in the women’s 85-89 year old division in Track & Field at Stanford University. McGowan earned gold medals in the long
jump and the 200 meter run, silver medals in the hammer, javelin, triple jump and 100 meter run, a 4th place ribbon in the shot put and a seventh place ribbon in the discus.

Ray Carroll of Saunderstown and John Hunt of Lincoln teamed up with two players from Massachusetts to win the gold medal in the 70-74 year old division in three on three basketball. Carroll’s and Hunt’s team. Finn’s Law, beat North Carolina for the championship.

Neil Steinberg of Pawtucket took 4th place in the men’s 55-59 year old 100 meter and 200 meter finals, and missed out on a bronze medal in the 100 by just 0.03 of a second. He also won a gold medal in the 4x100 meter event, running with three others who were competing unattached to a particular state.

LeRoy Scott of Warwick won the bronze medal in the men’s 65-69 year old bowling competition, rolling 724 and 630 series.

Sandra Croft of Warwick won 4 ribbons in women’s swimming in the 50-54 age group. She was 4th in the 50 yard freestyle, 8th in the 100 free, 4th in the 200 free and 8th in the 500 freestyle
competition.

Elizabeth Penkala of Warren earned a 5th place ribbon in the women’s 50-54 year old shot put competition.

John Ditomasso of Greenville earned a 6th place ribbon in the 5K road race and a 7th place ribbon in the 10k competing in the men’s 55-59 year old division.

Roland Roy of Providence earned a sixth place ribbon in the men’s 50-54 year old 1500 meter run.

Wayne Peacock of East Greenwich won a 7th place ribbon in the men’s 70-74 year old 1500 meter run.
